Welcome to Let’s Go on a Hike! Here I’ll have weekly reviews on hikes throughout Michigan (and maybe beyond). Questions like: Can I trail run this path? How much parking is available? How difficult is this trail? and many more will be answered!
The Basics
Elberta Dunes South a loop trail, with a few out-and-back points. We hiked 1.3 miles of almost 2 miles of trails.. This trail has pretty significant elevation change any where from 190ft-308ft of elevation gain.
The trail head is located off of M22, just south of Frankfort on the west side of the road. There is a parking lot, with ample parking.
The trail is through a forest, on dunes, with some ridge walking, you get a little bit of everything with this hike . Parking available right at the trail head in a parking lot. The trail is wide enough for 1 person. Dogs are allowed (as long as they are leashed). There is no entrance fee.
The Highlights
Incredible views of Lake Michigan and Frankfort Light.
Beautiful going from forest, to dunes, to Lake Michigan
Nice quick and easy way to spend a hour or less.
The Warnings
Reviews on AllTrails in summer time warned of poison ivy.
