Social Distancing Tips + Things To Do Indoors

You’re probably sick of hearing more about COVID-19. It’s all anyone is talking about, thinking about, it’s preventing us from living our normal lives, causing incredible financial strain for many, and causing many people to get incredibly sick and even die.

As scientists and healthcare workers strive to help everyone and create a vaccine or more efficient way to treat this virus, WE have an important role to play

stopping the spread of the virus

The BEST way to stop the spread is to not be exposed, that means not going into public places, not seeing family and friends outside of your household, washing hands well and often, and limiting touching your face.

Not seeing family and friends can be extremely hard, and wear on your mental health. So I’ve compiled a list of ways to social distance and things to do indoors by yourself or with others in your house.

Social Distancing Tips:

  1. iMessage games: remember a few years ago how everyone was playing games against each other through iMessage? Well now is the perfect time to bring that back! Plus they have so many more games now.

  2. Facetime/Skype: an obvious one but you can spice it up! Put on your favorite episode of The Office and watch it together, make a point to FaceTime over dinner with someone so you’re not eating alone, share a glass of wine or a cup coffee together.

  3. Book Club: text your friends and figure out a book (or two or three) to read together. The New York Public Library has over 300,000 books available for free! Also, if you have a local library you’re a part of, check out their ebook section on their website.

Check out what former astronauts share on ways to cope with social distancing and feeling isolated.

Things to do indoors:

  1. Clean: seriously though, it’s now officially spring, so what better time to break out the spring cleaning then when you’re trapped inside. Do all the deep cleaning you’ve put off.

    a. Gather clothes to donate

    b. Organize the Tupperware drawer

    c. Go through the junk drawer(s)

    d. Laundry, if you have a washer at home, wash everything you haven’t recently. Strip beds, pillow cases, etc.

  2. Nap: remember when you dreamed of times to just stay at home and nap all day. Now it’s here! Don’t feel guilty, take a day to yourself to nap, rest, and recharge.

  3. Reading: designate 30 minutes (or more) to just read, no phone, no computer. Take some time away from the media.

  4. Games: puzzles, board games, card games, dominos, time to rip them all out.

  5. Workout: take some time for yoga, calisthenics, or just some stretching. It’s important to still stay physically active when you’re stuck inside.

  6. Cook: try out a new recipe, new cocktail, coffee drink, head over to your Pinterest board and pick something you’ve wanted to try.

  7. Practice: practice makeup, an instrument, knitting, painting, whatever you’ve been trying to work on, devote an hour to really work on it.

  8. Hike: get outside, but safely. If you’re near a Michigan State Park, the DNR has waived needing a Recreation Passport so you can hike, sit outside in the sun, walk your dog all for free! Just make sure you’re maintaining at least a 6ft distance between you and anyone else around.

Very friendly staff. A must hit location if you’re in Traverse City! It was a wonderful place to sit and work for a few hours. I’m looking forward to heading back and trying more drinks!
