Let’s Go on a Hike! Ep. 9 – Pyramid Point

Welcome to Let’s Go on a Hike! Here I’ll have weekly reviews on hikes throughout Michigan (and maybe beyond). Questions like: Can I trail run this path? How much parking is available? How difficult is this trail? and many more will be answered!

The Basics

Pyramid point is a 1 mile out and back trail. Though it’s not too long, it’s still a fierce trail at over 250ft of elevation change.

The trail head is located off of Port Oneida Rd. If Traveling North on M22 turn left onto Port Oneida Rd, if traveling South on M22 then turn right. Follow the road down and turn right onto Basch Rd and the trail head is on the left.

The trail is mainly in a forest, but half way yields some gorgeous overlook views of Lake Michigan and Manitou Islands. Parking available right at the trail head. The trail is wide enough for 2 people, sometimes 3. Dogs are allowed (as long as they are leashed). There is an entrance fee, you must have a Sleeping Bear Dunes Pass.

The Highlights

A tough but rewarding workout, yielding some great views.

You can also follow along the dunes to the right when you get out to the overlook, and head down a bit.

The Warnings

The first half of the hike is entirely up hill (Bonus: the entire way back is all downhill)

Parking can get full in peak season, but you can park along the road.
