Welcome to Let’s Go on a Hike! Here I’ll have weekly reviews on hikes throughout Michigan (and maybe beyond). Questions like: Can I trail run this path? How much parking is available? How difficult is this trail? and many more will be answered!
The Basics
There are multiple trails at Leelanau State Park, I took the Lake Michigan Trail which can be done as a loop (2.4 miles) or as an out and back (2 miles). I took the out and back trail with about 150 ft of elevation change.
It is located at the end of Densmore Rd, Northport, MI 49670
The trail goes through a forest, it’s a mix between dirt and sand. Good amount of parking available right at the trailhead. There is a water source available at the trailhead. The trail is wide enough for 2 people, sometimes even 3. Dogs are allowed (as long as they are leashed) however they are not allowed on the beach, its a piping plover habitat. There is an entrance fee, a state park recreation passport is required.
The Highlights
This trail features a beautiful lookout onto Lake Michigan. There are benches throughout the hike if you need a rest.
The Warnings
Don’t have many for this one! As always, be aware of ticks and clean shoes before and after your hike on the boot brushes. The outhouse smelled pretty stinky even from the outside, just as a warning.
