Let’s Go on a Hike! Ep. 12 – Boardman River Trail #2 & #3

Welcome to Let’s Go on a Hike! Here I’ll have weekly reviews on hikes throughout Michigan (and maybe beyond). Questions like: Can I trail run this path? How much parking is available? How difficult is this trail? and many more will be answered!

The Basics

Boardman River Trail consists of over 5 trails, totaling around 10 miles, with construction in plan to create more. We hiked 1.3 miles of trail #2 & #3. This easy going trail had minimal elevation change, though is not handicap accessible as there were stairs.

The trail head is located off of Cass Rd, on the east side of the road, just south of Airport Rd.

The trail partially in a forest, partially in the open, walking along the Boardman River. Parking available right at the trail head in a paved parking lot. The trail is wide enough for 2 people, sometimes 3. Dogs are allowed (as long as they are leashed). There is no entrance fee.

The Highlights

Trail #3 allows you to walk on incredibly cool boardwalks and a suspended bridge over marsh area, yielding some gorgeous views of the Boardman River and surrounding area.

Easy going hike, perfect for any season.

The Warnings

Some road noise can be heard on trail #3 (not so much on #2 because you are very close to the river)

Can be a bit icy in the winter due to being a highly trafficked trail.
