Let’s Go on a Hike! Ep. 3 – Glacial Hill Trail

Welcome to Let’s Go on a Hike! Here I’ll have weekly reviews on hikes throughout Michigan (and maybe beyond). Questions like: Can I trail run this path? How much parking is available? How difficult is this trail? and many more will be answered!

The Basics

Glacial Hill Trail is a 1.6 mile loop trail with about 300 ft elevation change.

It is located at 1639 North Manitou Trail, Leland, MI 49654, in the Whaleback Natural Area.

The trail goes through a forest. Limited parking available right at the trail head, however you can park on the road . There is no water source available throughout this hike. The trail is wide enough for 1 person. Dogs are allowed (as long as they are leashed). There is no entrance fee.

The Highlights

This trail features a beautiful lookout onto Lake Michigan with a perfect view of South Manitou Island.

The Warnings

This trail has lots of roots, be very careful when walking, I would NOT advise trail running. The beginning of this trail is a fairly steep, uphill climb. As always, be aware of ticks and clean shoes before and after your hike on the boot brushes.
