3 Midtown Coffee Shops for Finals Week

It’s that time of year again! Semester is ending (yay!) but not before final exams (boo!). If you go to Wayne State, UofD, or any college/university in the Metro-Detroit area, here are 3 coffee shops to spend some of your grueling hours studying for those exams!

Awake Cafe

Location: 4224 3rd St. Detroit

Hours: Thursday – Saturday 9AM-9PM

Menu Options:

They have a good variety of coffee, tea, and espresso drinks. Including over 10 syrup flavors (+ 2 sugar free flavors). They offer one alternative milk option (almond).

If you’re hungry then you can get a sandwich, wrap, salad, soup, or a pastry! They also offer smoothies that are vegan, gluten free, no sugar added, no artificial flavors or lactose.

The Space:

There’s ample seating, decent number of outlets and good lighting (lots of natural light and industrial/Edison lights). The atmosphere is very accommodating and serene, the perfect spot to sit and study, or have a light conversation.

Parking:

Street parking is available.

Random thoughts:

I really enjoyed my time here, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The space was quiet and a great study space. I also love that they help not only the local economy of Detroit but also Villages in Honduras.

The Bottom Line Coffeehouse

IMG_9102.jpg

Location: 4474 3rd St. Detroit

Hours: Everyday 9AM-9PM

Menu Options:

They have a good variety of coffee, tea, and espresso drinks, including my favorite, a lavender latte which I prefer iced. Each season they have specialty drinks. They offer one alternative milk option (soy).

For food they have a variety of delicious pastries. They also allow you to pay for a coffee ahead of time for someone that may not be able to afford it themselves (ask about “suspended coffee”)

The Space:

There’s not a ton of seating (<20 seats), mainly “bar top” seating. But, there are decent number of outlets if you’re by a wall. The lighting is good as well.

Parking:

Street parking is available.

Random thoughts:

This is the perfect spot to come study by yourself! Pop some headphones in and enjoy the cool atmosphere of the place and get some work done. Because of the limited seating it was pretty quiet.

New Order

Monday-Thursday: 7AM-6PM

Friday: 7AM-8PM

Saturday: 8AM-8PM

Sunday: 8:30AM-6PM

They have a great variety of coffee, tea, and espresso drinks. They offer a variety of alternative milk options (soy, coconut, almond).

For food they have a variety of delicious pastries (like a huge fruity people rice crispy treat).

The Space:

There’s a decent amount of seating inside and they have a great covered patio/outdoor seating. There are decent number of outlets if you’re by a wall. The lighting is great, tons of natural light.

Parking:

Street parking is available on Woodward and on side streets.

Random thoughts:

This is a great place to study, just hang out with friends, or both! The patio is a great place to sit now that the weather is getting warmer and the fresh air is perfect for when you’re in a study slump.
