Winter Wonderlands: Pierce Stocking Drive

Happy Snowy Season!

Well there are many days in the winter time where I like to curl on the couch with coffee and a book, there are also many days where I love to get outside and see all the beauty this season brings us.

Here I’ll be sharing MUST DO winter hikes in Michigan! These are trails that completely transform with a blanket of snow.

Next up,

Pierce Stocking Drive

This 7.5 mile long scenic drive turns into cross-country ski and hiking trails in the winter. There are additional side trails throughout the drive as well!

A large parking lot is located just past the entrance of the scenic drive, which is located just west of M-22 on M-109.

There are portions of significant elevation change depending on what route you take.

Plan ahead and bring water, snacks, and dress in layers. Cell phone service can be extremely spotty or completely nonexistent throughout the scenic drive, be sure to let someone know ahead of time where you will be going. Stop at the visitors center in Empire to grab a map for additional help, as well as a National Park Pass!

Pets are allowed (leashed) and please remember to clean up after them! (Pets are not allowed on the dunes) And on that note, make sure to “go before you go” and use the bathroom ahead of time, many vault toilets are closed in the winter months.
