Hop Lot Brewing Company is brewing company in Suttons Bay, MI. They are located on M-22, just south of downtown Suttons Bay. They are famous for their igloos in the winter time (see my post here!) and they have an extremely large outdoor space for bonfires, gathering, lots of Up North Michigan fun.

The beer featured today is their

Soury ‘bout That

Okay, I seem to be starting these tastings with all my favorites, so here’s my favorite sour! This sour is made with 100% Leelanau strawberries! There’s also peaches in it, really making it a fruit forward sour. It’s tart, but not too sour. It pairs with just about anything in my book, but especially Hop Lot’s tacos or nachos!

You can pick up a growler, howler, or bottle at Hop Lot right now as they’re offering curb-side pickup. 64 oz growler is $16.50 for a new growler or $14 for growler exchange. 32oz howler is $11.25 for a new howler or $8.75 for a howler exchange. A 12oz bottle is $4 for a new bottle or $3 for a prowler or bottle exchange.

I enjoyed this sour with my favorite, quick and easy taco casserole (Happy Cinco de Mayo!). Super simple and easy to make you need:

  • 1lb of ground beef or ground turkey or shredded chicken or meat alternative

  • 1 can of corn

  • 1 can diced tomatoes

  • 1 cup of dry rice (white or brown)

  • 1 can of beans (black or pinto)

  • shredded cheese

  • sour cream

  • taco seasoning, chili powder, onion powder, salt, pepper

Cook your rice according to the package. When there is about 5 minutes left on the rice begin cooking the meat. Preheat the oven at this time to 350 degrees.

Cook your meat, I used ground turkey and browned it, add about 1/4-1/3 cup of water and then added a generous amount of taco seasoning (I use more than what is recommended on the package), sprinkle of onion powder, sprinkle of chili powder, plus salt and pepper and let simmer for a few minutes.

In a large bowl combine corn, tomatoes, rice, and beans, draining each can before adding. Sprinkle with additional taco seasoning, onion powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper.

When the meat is finished drain out most of the water, then add the remaining to the large bowl with all the other ingredients. Mix throughout and then added to casserole dish. Top with generous amounts of shredded cheese.

Bake for 10-15 minutes, until cheese is bubbling. Serve with a dollop of sour cream on top.

You can easily change this recipe, adding peppers, onions, different meats, hot sauce, etc. The possibilities are endless!

Let me know in the comments or on Instagram if you have a favorite beer from Hop Lot, or any other Michigan wineries, cideries, or breweries you would like me feature! Stay safe and stay inside!
