5 Essential Items for Your Road Trip Packing List

Traveling cross country? Or like I did recently, cross-continental? Here are some of my essential items for your road trip packing list! These are my most used items that I HIGHLY recommend bringing along with you for your journey!

Collapsable Chair

Out of all the items I brought, this was the one I was surprised with just how much I used it. I knew I would want to sit around the campfire and at the site. What I didn’t realize was how much I would use it sitting at various road side scenic stops, cooking lunch out of the car at various National Parks, and to hold items as we loaded/unloaded. Definitely an essential item on your road trip packing list!

The chair I used is from CLIQ and I couldn’t recommend it more! The absolute easiest set up and take down of any collapsable chair I’ve used! Great comfort sitting in it for hours and it packs down nice and small fitting easily in my day pack! The only downside I have to chair is the weight, if you’re looking for a chair to bring on a hike or backpacking, this is just a little bit too heavy for that. It’s the perfect chair for car camping!

Travel Pillow

I’m not talking about one of those funky plane travel pillows, I’m talking about a teeny, tiny, what seems like unusable pillow, but is actually quite comfortable pillow. I’m used to bunching up a sweatshirt, or something similar while camping, or hauling out a full sized pillow to the campground. I knew that was feasible because I was flying home at the end of my road trip.

In comes the Therm-a-Rest Compressible Pillow. This cinches for your level of comfort while camping, it compresses down so small making it easily packable for me when I had to travel by plane back home. It made a world of difference for my sleep! This was easily on my essential items for your road trip packing list!

Quick Dry Towels

When you’re on the road, you’re jumping from place to place and you don’t have time for regular towels that take a day to dry. Quick dry towels are ideal for situations like backpacking AND road trips!

Backpacking Stove

Want to enjoy delicious meals while still on the road? Don’t want to have something that takes up a ton of space? A backpacking stove is the way to go! Whether you’re rehydrating a meal, cooking right in the pot, backpacking stoves condense down nice and small to allow you have a lot more space for other items.

I’ve used this backpacking stove for the past 7 years and it’s hands down one of my favorite items!

Portable Wash Bag

I was very skeptical when Scrubba sent me their foldable hand washing machine. But once I tried it for myself, I’m throughly impressed! This simple design is perfect for any long adventure, like a road trip. Simply fill with the clothes you need washed, add potable water, detergent, and scrub! After a few minutes, you do a rinse, then let the clothes air dry.

I love that this bag also doubles as a dry bag as well! When we took a kayaking trip I had something to easily take my belongings along with us!
